Au Petit Schlitteur is a cozy artisanal bakery in Muhlbach-sur-Munster, in the Vosges. Founded by Nicolas Kaestlé, it’s known for its traditional Alsatian pastries and warm atmosphere. The bakery has won several awards, including Best Galette des Rois in the Grand Est (2018) and the Croissant d’Or (2022). It also holds the “Boulanger de France” label for baking excellence.

Vienosserie

The viennoiserie was very tasty. The croissant and the pain au chocolat had a beautiful interior. The filled viennoiserie had a slightly denser structure, in my preference a bit too dense. The pistachio filling had a very nice flavor, was not too sweet, and had a pleasant crunch. The filling of the hazelnut viennoiserie was very rich and sweet, a bit too overpowering.

Bread

The pain tradition was very disappointing, with a very dense crumb, a bit like supermarket yeast bread. The pain de campagne did have a much nicer flavor, but with a rather uneven structure. The baguette céréale was the best bread we tried here; it had a slightly tangy flavor and a much better structure compared to the pain tradition. If you come by here, I would recommend the viennoiserie.
